Fashion Girls for Japan Sample Sale

Today I stopped by the Fashion Girls for Japan sample sale at The Bowery Hotel. 60+ designers donated pieces for Japan Society's Earthquake fund to aid in the reconstruction for the parts of Japan destroyed by the earthquake and tsunami last March.

 There was a pretty good crowd when it started at noon. A large section for womenswear, with accessories and some shoes and a small section for menswear. As with all sample sales there's no fitting room so be sure to wear a tanktop and leggings if you're too shy to strip down in front of everyone. Every designer donated about 20+ pieces each, so the selection was pretty good.  The prices however were still in the $150-$400 for some of my favorite Asian designers such as 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang and Thakoon. Honestly, I've seen lower prices at their regular sample sales but since this was for charity I can understand only getting a 50% discount. And since my tax return wasn't that much, I only made one small purchase...

I've been looking for a white skirt for a while now and this one was really cute and flattering, I can't wait to wear it! First time I've ever bought anything from this company but I am officially obsessed after checking out their website.

Tokyo Runway Spring/Summer 2012

Hey everybody and by everybody I mean all two of you who still read my blog (Hi Mom! Hi me!). I need to stop being so m.i.a... Anyways, the first ever Tokyo Runway happened this past Tuesday and I wanted to cover some of favorite looks and spring trends.  Similar to the Tokyo Girls Collection that I summarized two weeks ago, Tokyo Runway is a collaboration fashion show between different brands sold in Japan.  The sold out fashion show and concert had over 15,000 people in attendance and took over three stages featuring a total of 40 different fashion collections.  It is like fashion week on steroids!

Spring Jackets

No matter what your style is, Tokyo Runway is bound to have a coat for you.  For the classic girl, you have the simple white jacket with scalloped edges from JugeETTA.  For the downtown hipster girl, a long denim jacket over stripped shorts from Lily Brown can be just the look for you. For the uptown city girl, a classic camel coat or Peter Pan collar can give you the sweet yet sophisticated look of the upper east side. And for the edgy girls who aren't afraid to be too bold, a Roberto Cavalli floral pantsuit may be just what you need to win major spring street style recognition.

Cutouts

Cutouts can give any outfit that subtle sexiness and badass tan lines that every girl loves.

Spring Lace

Lace in the spring/summer can be boho, romantic and sexy. A little goes a long way and it is see through so don't forget to wear a pretty bra underneath, ladies!

Asymmetrical Skirts=Mullet Skirts

Symmetrical skirts are so yesterday, just like straight bangs and terry cloth tracksuits. Asymmetrical is where it's at this season and for the petite girls like myself who have a hard time pulling off a full maxi skirt a Mullet Skirt = mini in the front, maxi in the back is our solution.

Peplum

Peplums littered the fall runways but why do we have to wait till fall to wear them if they're already available now! This ladylike look can be dressed up for a party or toned down for work, just by changing the right accessories such as belts and shoes.

Spring Hats

The Brits aren't the only hat aficionados, the Japanese also love their hats and in a variety of sizes, styles and colors. Which hat style will you be rocking this spring? I love myself a good panama hat for the beach ;)

Tokyo Girls Collection Autumn/Winter 2011

I swear, one of these days I will fly my butt over to Japan to attend one of the Tokyo Girls Collection fashion show!  What I love about TGC is the variety of clothes they display, the accessibility and affordability of the items and how it is not like your typical runway; the models are happy and energetic and the atmosphere is like you're at a concert. This season's TGC theme was "Smile for _____," the ____ is for you to fill in and the concept behind the theme was to help those ravaged by the earthquake and tsunami back in March to regain some courage.

Here are some Fall/Winter trends that I took note of and some of my favorite outfits from the show!

Plaid is still a must have this season, the classic Brawny man look gets another season to update! 

Colors for fall: Red-Orange and Mustard hues, these warm, rich shades reflect the beautiful changing colors of the leaves

A timeless print, Polka Dots aren't just black and white anymore!

The must have animal print this season would have to be Leopard, you can go bold with a fur coat or subtle with a leopard printed shoe or scarf, whatever you choose it would go great with anything as long as it has that neutral camel tone.

Lace can bring a girl from prim and proper to sexy and scandalous; what kind of lacy girl are you?

It's not a Autumn/Winter collection without some fabulous Furs

Japanese Summer Festival at Mitsuwa

I know, I haven't blogged in a gabillion months and a zillion weeks; to be honest I lost some inspiration after my vacation to South America (I knew I should've gone to Asia!) But I am back! Hope you guys will come back with me!

Today, I went to check out the Japanese Summer Festival at Mitsuwa = A day full of food, games and of course shopping!

A kawaii little girl in a yukata came to play the drums with me, so adorbs!

Still praying for Japan, I hope things continue to improve, I heard they shut down elevators and escaltors in parts of Japan to save energy :/

Award Show Fashion: MTV Video Music Awards Japan

I found it very fitting that Lady Gaga performed at the MTV Video Music Awards in Japan this weekend. Her eclectic style fit right in with the atmosphere (I take that back, everyone else was quite modest looking tbh) Even though she was without an egg, Gaga was still able to make a statement with her studded 6 inch platforms and the illusion of bulging eyes drawn on her eyelids.

Singer Beni and host of my favorite show in Japan, Tokyo Kawaii TV, showed up on the red carpet in a chic green floral mini dress and strappy high heels

Thelma Aoyama wore a drappy black mini (which I love the pattern of btw) paired with nude pumps

J-Pop girl group Shibuhara was the only group to not coordinate outfits and I kinda wish they did because they do not look like a group at all -__-

Namie Amuro also chose a modest look for the show in a simple black dotted dress

Michi's black and white outfit caught my interest with its voluminous skirt and matching black and white shoes!

Kana Nishino wore a ruffled champagne mini dress (definitely a popular trend this award show season)

K-Pop turned J-Pop girl group Girl's Generation are the queens of outfit coordination! Even Destiny's Child have nothing on them!

DJ Kaori has a lot going on in one outfit, ruffles, sequins, stripes and the large head piece reminds me of the Royal Wedding :P

Anna Tsuchiya failed to impress in this long white sheer dress. I thought the Japanese were fearless in their fashion!

The J-pop girl group AKB48 that made school uniforms cool are now trying to make the Alice in Wonderland meets military look work... I really don't think this look works unless you're under the age of umm..10! Nice try girls!
