Award Show Fashion: 47th Baeksang Arts Awards

The 47th Baeksang Arts Awards were held yesterday; South Korea's version of the Golden Globes, where they award the best in film and television. If you've been following my blog a while, you'll know that the Koreans rarely step out of their "black dress comfort zone", so I was really surprised to see the pics from this show's red carpet. Plenty of white, red and even purple, this is by far one of my favorite Korean red carpets ;)
Tang Wei, who won best actress (and she isn't even Korean! you go girl!) also won my award for Best Dressed! Her gorgeous multi colored Escada gown caught my attention immediately
Kim Ah Joong wore the red version of Janice Man's dress from the HK Film Awards. I actually prefer it in the red, the bright color looked perfect on Ah Joong!
Moon Geun Young was quite the trend follower in a sexy cutout dress, I just love the flowiness (if this isn't a real word, I'm making it one! lol) of this dress.
I just had to include Big Bang's T.O.P. because he's amazing and he's as into fashion as I am haha, but mostly because he'e freaking H.O.T.! He could've opted to go in just a plain black jacket like all the other guys but he chose this purple printed jacket and black bow tie, gotta give him props for always stepping outside the box! Saranghae oppa! ;P
Ha Ji Won (from Secret Garden) skipped the red carpet and went straight to show in this black/white ensemble. Check out her guns.. her arms guys, I'm talking about her arms! lol

Yoo In Na (from Secret Garden) walked the red carpet in this chili pepper red gown with a sweetheart neckline, accessorizing with a small black clutch. Kim Nam Joo also decided to wear red but in a pantsuit and I must say, she looked extra leggy in this outfit. Definitely a plus on the assymetrical look on the jacket and black accessories.

Lee Min Jung wore a simple dress in a super bright fuschia and matched it with her fuschia and black clutch. although the color was eyecatching, the design was not.
Park Shin Hye opted for this royal blue Salvatore Ferragamo less the extremely plunging neckline that was on the runway model, which I thought was a nice touch since it's a well respected award show ;P

Hwang Jung Eum decided to bare her midriff (also in Salvatore Ferragamo) but in a tasteful manner by keeping every other part of herself fully covered. [Which reminds me that I gotta do some crunches today, right after I have myself a delicious Klondike bar! ;P ]

Seo Young Hee waved to the photogs in a simple strapless dark gray dress

Jo Yeo Jeong decided to be the girl who went to an award show in just a simple black dress, I would've given her some credit but the girl didn't even wear any jewels or do something to her hair! If I had the chance to walk on a red carpet and get photographed, I am gonna put some damn effort into it!

Min Hyo Rin went in black as well but at least her dress has some interest to it such as a pattern created by the sheer fabric

Nam Gyu Ri in a gorgeous v-neck tiered ruffle dress that I wish I had gone to prom in :( I just love the look of it and the banded in waist gave it some definition.
Hong Soo Ah looked young and fresh in this pale yellow dress with an embellished collar and bust.
Go Hyun Jung in a nude Donna Karan, sparkled but didn't shine as much as the other ladies.
Park Min Young was one of the five ladies to go in a white dress, her's featured a sweetheart neckline and chiffon ruffles on the top
Only Suzy can pull off this sweet bubble skirted dress and pair them with flashy violet pumps featuring floral appliques
Han Hyo Joo in a very unflattering tiered ruffle and lace Nina Ricci gown. The dress just looked too big on her and made her look wider that she really is on top.
Shin Hyun Bin looked like she missed a fitting as her bright white gown looked loose and like a window curtain she just wrapped around herself =_= Park Ha Seon in a hanbok, I am all for ethnic dresses but the ruching on the skirt of the dress looks a bit all over the place and unflattering. Not a fan.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend (and the Americans, a happy long weekend, whoohoo BBQs!)
Let me know below, who caught your eye and who had you gouging them out at this red carpet event?

Fashionable Asians at Cannes Film Festival

OMG so much fashion goodness to share from Cannes. Been collecting and oogling at all the Cannes pics for the past week and I must say, the crown for Most Fashionable Asian at Cannes goes to previously featured Fan Bing Bing! That girl can pull off ANYTHING and look absolutely AMAZING. Most girls would go lesbian for Angelina Jolie, but I'd totally go lezzie for Bing Bing; so we can roll around in her larger than life couture gowns! LOL TMI? ok, let's just get to the pictures then, haha

It must be nice to be friends with an amazing designer like Elie Saab to get offered apleathora of fabulous dresses to every event! Bing Bing did mix it up with two Versace gowns, two Louis Vuitton dresses, Oscar De La Renta and a custom red crane gown by Bo Kewen. Bing Bing proves time and time again that she is the reigning fashion icon of Asia, always choosing the perfect gowns for her body and never over accessorizing to keep the focus on the outfit.

Another gal with a ton of wardrobe changes at Cannes was Tang Wei, there to promote her new film "Wu Xia". Unlike Bing Bing, Tang Wei favored more of the black, white and pink dresses by Valentino, Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana. Of all the designer dresses, I actually preferred the cream halter dress with the grass and butterfly print that she wore to the photoshoot on the yacht; sweet and summery. I don't know why she ruined a nice D&G outfit with fishnet stockings, that was a bad choice =_=

Li Bing Bing was at Cannes to promote "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" and this girl knows how to wow 'em. The large tulle gown was Georges Chakra Couture, and while I wasn't a fan of the poof, I was really interested in the pattern on the bustier.

Korean actress Sun Mi Song looked chic in a multi layered metallic silver dress for her photocall; I wasn't a fan of her dress for the premiere though, she kind of cheapened the look of it with the sheer coverup. Gong Li is such a diva and I love that her outfit choices are representative of her attitude. She looked fierce in her black Roberto Cavalli dress with an embellished bustier.

Gianna Jun Ji Hyun rocked the red carpet and events in feminine and glamourous looks, starting with a soft pink ruffled dress with a deep v cut. But my favorite of her looks has got to be the black sparkler with a slight train, it was slimming and she just rocked it!

Yuan Li looked fab in a soft lilac gown with crystal embellishments accesorized with a silver glitter clutch

Cecilia Wang and Donnie Yen were promoting "Wu Xia" at Cannes. Cissy wore a ruffled strapless gown to the premiere and a short floral dress to photocall.

Of all the ladies, I think Li Xiao Ran had the most color variety, wearing a different colored gown every day. I wasn't a fan of her biege Elie Saab because the ruching is slightly unflattering and the color just washed her out.
HK Best actress Kara Hui showed up at Cannes in a black strapless gown with tiered ruffles and showed off some legs in a short red dress for the photocall. Who says you can't be forty and fabulous?
Funny woman Sandra Ng got to go to Cannes, thanks to her husband Peter's directorial work in "Wu Xia". She opted for a sparkly sandy dress for the premiere and a sheer Peter Pilotto dress for the morning photocall.
Wendy Deng, the wife of Rupert Murdoch went to Cannes in style wearing a leaf embellished chiffon gown and a chic purple cocktail dress in the evening.
UPDATE: Forgot to add Aishwarya Rai, can't forget our South East Asians! (Thanks Hungover on Fashion for the tip!) Former pageant queen and Bollywood actress looked stunning in a gray floral laced Elie Saab and an attention grabbing white/blue Armani Prive. She tends to go for more subtle and neutral colors, but I would've loved to see her in something more bright like red or coral.

Fashionable Asian of the Week: Zhang Ziyi

Yay Blogger stopped being an asshole so I could share my pick for fashionable Asian of the week! haha and it is none other than the fabulous Zhang Ziyi! The Chinese actress has been busy the past week promoting her new film "Love for Life," a story about an HIV infected couple in rural China. I think it'll be a great film and would be both inspirational and empowering. It's something that isn't very talked about in Asian culture and a film with such huge Asian stars is sure to shed some light on the subject of HIV/Aids awareness. You can also help spread the word by supporting the H&M Fashion Against Aids collection.

With costar Aaron Kwok at the premiere, in Christian Dior (her second time wearing a dress from their Spring 2011 collection). I still stand on us yellows looking bad in yellow but the design of the dress is nice.
My favorite outfit of Ziyis this week, a simple sheer silver grey dress, fits her perfectly and not too flashy for a daytime look.
Ziyi attended a show in this classy LBD with shiny beaded details

Loving the white lace embroidered cardigan over her strapless pink dress
Shoulders pads, embroidered florals and feathers, three trends in one dress and she pulls it off nicely.
Ziyi matched her costar in a pink (I want to say D&G) dress featuring ruffles and lace appliquéd print, and good thing she didn't match her shoes to her dress! smart girl ;P

She's so freaking elegant and a great actress, I kinda hope Hollywood would give her more chances =D
Which was your favorite Ziyi look of the week?

Fashionable Asians at the 2011 Met Costume Gala

Last night was the Met Costume Gala honoring Alexander McQueen. I can't wait to go check out the MccQueen exhibit for myself, it is literally the talk of the town! Everyone who was anyone in the fashion and entertainment industry was in attendance, even some very notable Asians:

Alexa Chung in a sparkly beaded Christopher Kane dress, one of my favorite looks of the night. I thought it was a pretty unique choice for Alexa since everyone else was in long gowns, but Alexa always surprises.

Vera Wang showed up in her own creation to the Gala looking rather frail. While I like the overall design of the dress, I think another color would've looked better on Vera. I never liked mustard hues on Asians :T

Lucy Liu in a feathery gown by Vionnet. I'm kind of on the fence about this one since I'm not a fan of feathers but I like the sheer part giving the dress a bit of subtle sexiness. The belted center is throwing me off a bit, the break in feathers might be a bit too wide.

UPDATE 5/4: Just found out my favorite half Asian Maggie Q was there wearing a gorgeous floral ruffle dress by Asian designer Tadashi Shoji. Maggie totally rocked it with an elegant updo and neutral makeup. Who else is excited to watch Nikita this week? It has gotten soooo good since her and Shane are hooking up on the show!

Which Asian lady has your vote for most fashionable?
